The Jam Works

Print Case Study

The Jam Works is located in the Rope Walks Conservation Area of Liverpool City Centre. The site is an urban infill opportunity proposing to include 25 one and two bedroom apartments, ground level commercial space and below ground car parking facilities. The building responds to the scale on the street scape and the adjacent buildings are expressed within a concrete rendered white frame and supported by columns at ground level which create a colonnade in front of the curtain wall glazing to the commercial unit.

Recessed with the frame balconies and glazed screens articulate the elevation and provide privacy and solar shading to the floor to ceiling glazing of the apartments behind. The concrete frame is terminated below the level of the Tea Factory's brick parapet creating a step down effect to the mass of building on the street edge. Above this the top floor apartments are stepped back by two metres to provide larger roof top terraces and conceal the penthouse from view at street level.
